  • You will need to provide proof that you have been residing outside of Japan for more than two consecutive years (original copies of either a "Certificate of Residence" or a "Copy of Supplemental Family Register").
  • * The documents submitted as proof must include the lot number of your registered domicile.
  • * The documents must have been issued within six months of your last entry into Japan.
  • * Permanent residence cards and residence registration forms are not accepted as proof documents.
  • * If you entered Japan using an automated gate, duty-free purchases are not permitted without a return stamp. Duty-free purchases using exit stamps from other countries are not permitted.

Tax-Free Items and Amounts

General Items

Clothing, bags/shoes, accessories, jewelry,
tableware, crafts, etc.

  • * You must take purchased tax-free items out of the country.
  • * This applies to purchases totaling ¥5,000 or more (excluding tax) made at the same store on a single day.

Consumables

Cosmetics, food, alcoholic beverages,
other beverages, supplements, etc.

  • * You must take purchased tax-free items out of the country.
  • * This applies to purchases made at the same store on a single day totaling between ¥5,000 (excluding tax) and ¥500,000 (excluding tax).
  • * For consumable goods, items will be handed over packaged (in bags or cardboard boxes) according to specified methods and must not be opened within Japan.
  • * If consumed or unpacked within Japan, you may be subject to collection of the tax-exempted consumption tax upon departure.

About Tax-Free Shops

There are two types of tax-free shops at Tokyu Department Stores: those where tax-free procedures are done at the tax-free counter, and those where the procedures are handled at each store within the department store. For more information, please check at the entrance of each store.

* Some shops do not offer tax-free services.

Tax-Free Service Process and Important Notes

Purchase tax-exempt items at each shop and be sure to visit the tax-free counter during its operating hours on the same day as the purchases.

Please present your passport, all purchased items, and receipts at the tax-free counter.
If you purchased items using a credit card, the name on the credit card must match the name on your passport exactly.

『Important notice』

To qualify for tax-free shopping, the following conditions must be met.
If the duty-free shop determines that the conditions are not met, tax-free shopping will not be permitted.

  1. 1. There are restrictions on what qualifies for tax exemption.
    • If purchases cannot be verified as for personal use (e.g., souvenirs), tax-free procedures cannot be applied.
  2. 2. The person who made the tax-free purchase must personally take the items out of the country. If they do not take them out, consumption tax will be collected.
    • You must take tax-free purchases out of Japan within 6 months of entry (excluding diplomats, etc.)
    • Tax-free items must be carried by the purchaser when departing and presented at customs.
    • If checking luggage, customs clearance is required before check-in.
